OpenAI DevDay 2026: everything announced, from dots and GPT-6.1 Sol to Pro 500 and ChatGPT Space

OpenAI held its DevDay 2026 event on September 29, 2026, and called it its biggest yet, with “more than 20 major announcements” across ChatGPT, Codex, its models and new ways of working with AI. OpenAI also said ChatGPT now has 1.2 billion weekly users, and that it is opening ChatGPT as a shared surface where developers can launch native experiences. This report sorts the announcements by what they mean for people who use ChatGPT, using OpenAI’s own recap, launch posts and release notes. Several features are rolling out gradually, so not every account will see them yet.

The announcements at a glance

Dots: always-on agents

The biggest launch is dots, which OpenAI describes as “remarkably capable, always-on agents built to handle everything”. A dot is powered by GPT-6 Astra, has its own cloud computer and browser, connects to apps through plugins and keeps working on your goals between conversations. GPT-6.1 Sol and Ultrafast

GPT-6.1 Sol is an upgrade to GPT-6 Sol that OpenAI says nearly matches GPT-6 Astra on agentic coding, computer use and professional work at one-fifth of Astra’s token prices. In the API it costs $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. It is live in ChatGPT Work and Codex but, as with its predecessor, not yet in ordinary chat. Ultrafast is a premium speed tier for work where speed matters most, with up to 8x faster token generation (300 tokens per second) in Codex and up to 6x in the API. GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast is available now in the API and in ChatGPT Work and Codex on Pro 500 and Enterprise plans, and GPT-6.1 Sol Ultrafast is coming soon.

OpenAI also introduced Private Intelligence for businesses, which includes Zero Data Retention with Private Safety Processing and, from this autumn, a preview of Private Inference built on confidential computing.

A new Pro tier and a change to Pro 200

The Pro 500 plan costs $500 a month, offers the highest usage allowance at 25 times the ChatGPT Plus allowance and includes Ultrafast. OpenAI’s release notes add that Pro 200 is open to new subscriptions again at $200 a month, after the pause that began on September 10, but that new subscriptions not eligible for grandfathering get a lower usage allowance. ChatGPT Space, Pages and team features

OpenAI spent a large part of DevDay on collaboration. Space is a new home for files and pages, Pages are documents built for people and agents to edit together, and collaborative slides are coming in the next few weeks, with export to PowerPoint or Google Slides. Business and Enterprise plans can also create teams that share pages, slides, plugins and spreadsheets and delegate recurring tasks, mention @ChatGPT in Slack and Microsoft Teams, and use a Meetings plugin that takes notes and saves summaries with action items in Space. Codex and developer tools

For developers, OpenAI announced:

• Codex in the cloud, where tasks run on OpenAI-managed computers from reusable environments, so work continues while your laptop sleeps. See Codex Cloud explained.
• A refreshed Codex command-line tool with voice control and a new /agents view for tracking several tasks at once.
• Code review in the ChatGPT desktop app, with summaries, diffs and automatic first-pass reviews in the cloud.
• Codex Security Cloud, which scans GitHub repositories on demand or on a schedule and prepares fixes, for Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu users.
• The Decisions API, in limited preview, which uses GPT-6 Luna to answer classification and routing questions with a fixed set of answers.
• The Agents API with computer use, plus Bedrock Managed Agents built with Amazon so OpenAI agents can run entirely inside AWS.

Plugins, sign-in and the marketplace

Plugin extensions let developers give a plugin a home in the ChatGPT sidebar, with interactive panels and viewers for file types. OpenAI is also improving plugin creation, submission and discovery, letting Sites host plugins on Business, Enterprise, Healthcare and Edu plans, and adding support for the proposed MCP Events specification so plugins can start automations when something changes in a connected app. All plans get plugin extensions and MCP events.

Sign in with ChatGPT lets you sign in to other products with your ChatGPT account, and lets Plus and Pro users spend their plan allowance in participating tools. OpenAI lists 16 partners, including Cognition’s Devin, Notion, Vercel, T3, OpenClaw and Dactyl. Plan usage is a limited preview, and a partner may still charge for its own product. Finally, the OpenAI Marketplace lets eligible enterprise customers put part of their existing OpenAI commitment toward approved partner software, with 32 launch partners including Figma, Adobe, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Harvey, Legora, CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks.

What to watch next

Much of this is gradual. OpenAI says some features may not reach your account for several days, collaborative slides are “in the coming weeks”, mobile creation and editing in Space is “coming soon”, and texting with a dot is a limited beta.
