Siri AI is here: what Apple's rebuilt Siri can do in iOS 27, and who can use it

Apple’s rebuilt Siri is finally out. Siri AI began rolling out in beta on September 14, 2026, as part of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27 and visionOS 27. Apple calls it an entirely new version of Siri: it holds real conversations, draws on what it knows about you, understands what’s on your screen and takes actions in apps. It’s free to use at launch, with daily limits, and needs recent hardware.

What Siri AI can do

• Use personal context. Siri can search your messages, email and photos to find what you need. In Apple’s example, it finds the family recipe a relative suggested baking in Messages, pulls up the cooking instructions from their email and adds the ingredients to your grocery list in Reminders.
• Understand your screen. While you’re looking at a sports team’s website, you can ask Siri to find every upcoming home game and add them to your calendar.
• Answer from the web. Siri uses information from across the web for things like football scores, holiday planning or a good coffee shop in a new city.
• Take actions in apps. It drafts emails, edits and shares photos, and works with third-party apps such as WhatsApp and Audible, with Microsoft Outlook, Notability and Tripsy coming soon.
• Keep the conversation going. You can turn almost any answer into a conversation and ask follow-up questions.

You can still say “Hey Siri”, or press the side button or swipe down from the Dynamic Island on iPhone. On iPad and Mac, Siri AI is built into Spotlight and the Control-click menu. On Apple Vision Pro, you can call Siri by looking at it and starting to speak.

A new Siri app

A dedicated Siri app keeps your conversations. History syncs privately through iCloud, so you can start a chat on your iPhone and continue it on a Mac, iPad, Apple Watch or Vision Pro. You can also create images in the Siri app by describing them, powered by Image Playground.

Camera, voices and writing

• Visual Intelligence: a new Siri mode in the iPhone Camera app lets you ask about what’s in front of you — point it at a festival poster, ask for your favourite artists’ set times and have Siri add them to your calendar. Visual Intelligence also comes to iPad through screenshots, to Mac with a keyboard shortcut and to Vision Pro.
• Voices and dictation: Siri’s voices are more expressive, and you can adjust their expressiveness and pace. Dictation handles punctuation, capitalisation and formatting as you speak.
• Writing with Siri: Siri can draft or rewrite text almost anywhere you type, match the tone and punctuation you usually use with each person in Mail and Messages, and proofread as you type, including in most third-party apps.

Other Apple Intelligence updates

Siri AI arrives with a wider set of Apple Intelligence features:

• Photos: Spatial Reframing adjusts the camera perspective after a photo is taken, Extend widens a shot and Clean Up removes distractions more convincingly.
• Image Playground: a new model creates images in almost any style, now including photorealistic, and Apple plans to support the SynthID standard for identifying AI-generated or AI-edited images.
• Safari: groups tabs into topics automatically, alerts you to restocks or price drops with Notify Me and can build custom extensions from a description.
• Everyday apps: Call Context surfaces details such as a reservation number when you call a business, Calendar accepts plain-language event descriptions, and Shortcuts can build automations from a description.

Later this year, Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 get Audio Intelligence features, including Live Rewind and Siri Recap in beta, and the Health app gets a redesign with AI-generated guidance.

Which devices get Siri AI

Languages, regions and age limits

• Languages: Siri AI is rolling out in beta in English. Apple says French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish are coming in October.
• EU: Siri AI, and features that rely on it, won’t be available initially in the EU on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS. Apple says it is working on a path forward that preserves users’ privacy and security.
• China: Siri AI and the other new Apple Intelligence features aren’t available while Apple works through regulatory requirements.
• Age: Siri AI isn’t available to users under 13.

Privacy, Gemini and usage limits

Siri AI runs on the next generation of Apple Foundation Models, which Apple says were custom-built in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models. They run on your device and on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute servers. When Private Cloud Compute handles a request, Apple says your personal data isn’t stored or made accessible to Apple or anyone else, and outside experts can verify that promise.

Features that rely on server-side models — including Siri AI, the new photo editing tools and Image Playground — are subject to daily usage limits that vary with demand and request complexity. Apple says expanded access will be available for a fee in the future.

How to get Siri AI

Update a supported device to iOS 27 (or the matching iPadOS, macOS, watchOS or visionOS release) in Settings, then General, then Software Update. Siri AI needs a supported device with Siri and the device language set to a supported language — English, for now. What it means for iPhone owners

Siri AI is Apple’s answer to the assistants that overtook Siri: it now works more like ChatGPT or Gemini, but with access to your own messages, email, photos and apps, handled on device or on Apple’s private servers.
