Apple and Amazon rebuilt their assistants within months of each other. Siri AI, released with iOS 27 on September 14, 2026, turns Siri into a conversational assistant that knows your personal context and can act inside apps. Alexa+ is Amazon’s generative-AI Alexa, which succeeds the original assistant on Echo devices, Fire TV and the Alexa app. They answer the same question — what should a voice assistant do for you? — from opposite ends: one starts from your phone, the other from your living room.
Where they live
Siri AI is built into Apple’s operating systems, so it goes where your Apple devices go: iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro. It needs recent hardware — an iPhone 15 Pro or later, an iPad mini with A17 Pro or an iPad with M1 or later, or a Mac with M1 or later. Apple lists Apple Watch Series 9 or later, paired with an iPhone.
Alexa+ lives on Echo devices and Fire TV, and in the Alexa app on iOS and Android, on Alexa.com and in the Amazon Music app. That makes it the more portable of the two: you can use it from an iPhone or an Android phone, with or without a speaker. Amazon says there are over 600 million Alexa devices in the world, so many people already own hardware that can run it.
What each assistant is good at
Siri AI is a personal assistant first. Apple says it can hold conversations, answer questions from broad world knowledge, see what is on your screen, use personal context such as messages and email, and take actions inside and across apps. Apple’s examples include texting a friend in WhatsApp or playing a book on Audible, and it says you will soon be able to ask Siri to draft an email in Microsoft Outlook. A dedicated Siri app lets you revisit earlier conversations, synced privately across your devices through iCloud.
Alexa+ is a household assistant first. It understands conversational requests, remembers your preferences and takes actions across services, such as bookings, orders and smart-home routines. Amazon names partners including Philips Hue, Roborock, OpenTable, Vagaro, Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods, Grubhub, Uber Eats, Ticketmaster and Thumbtack. You can also pick one of four personality styles — Brief, Chill, Sweet or Sassy.

Siri AI is free to try for anyone with a supported device. Alexa+ is free if you already pay for Prime, and $19.99 a month if you don’t.
Countries and languages
Siri AI launched in beta in English. Apple says French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish arrive the following month. It is not available initially in the EU on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, and not in China while Apple works through regulatory requirements. It is not available to users under 13.
Alexa+ is available to all customers in the US and Canada, and in early access in the UK, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Australia and India. Prices and terms differ by country.
Privacy
Both assistants see more of your life than the old ones did, so check the controls. Apple says the Siri app uses iCloud to sync your conversation history privately across your devices. Amazon centralises your Alexa+ interactions and settings in the Alexa Privacy dashboard. On either one, grant access only to the apps and accounts you want them to use, and review what the assistant can do before you enable purchases or messages. Which should you choose?
If you live on an iPhone and Mac, and your messages, email and calendar are where your day happens, choose Siri AI. If you want a voice assistant that runs your home, plays music, orders dinner and books a table, and you already pay for Prime, choose Alexa+. Plenty of households will use both: Siri on the phone in your pocket, Alexa in the kitchen.

Is Siri AI better than Alexa+?
Neither is better everywhere. Siri AI is stronger on your own devices, where it can use your messages and email, understand what is on your screen and act inside apps. Alexa+ is stronger in the home, where it works with Echo speakers, Fire TV and dozens of services for bookings, shopping and smart-home control.
Is Alexa+ free?
It is free for Amazon Prime members. Without Prime it costs $19.99 a month in the US. Pricing is different in other countries; in India Alexa+ is free for everyone during early access, and afterwards Prime members pay nothing while Prime Lite, Prime Shopping Edition and non-Prime customers pay INR 2,000 a month.
Is Siri AI free?
There is no fee at launch. Apple says some features that rely on server-side models are subject to daily usage limits, and that expanded access will be available for a fee in future.
Can I use Alexa+ on an iPhone?
Yes. Alexa+ works in the Alexa app for iOS and Android and on Alexa.com, so you don't need an Echo device to try it.
Does Siri AI work on HomePod?
Apple's launch announcement names iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro and does not list HomePod, so check Apple's device list before you count on it for a speaker.
Is the new Siri built on Google Gemini?
Partly. Apple says its models were custom-built in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models, and Google has confirmed that Gemini models help power the new Siri.
