What is the Meta AI app? Features, Muse Spark, image generation and privacy

Meta AI is Meta’s own AI assistant, and the Meta AI app is its standalone home: a dedicated app, separate from Meta AI inside Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger, built around a Discover feed and tied to the meta.ai website so a conversation follows you across devices. What the Meta AI app is

Meta introduced the app as “a new way to access your AI assistant”, with a Discover feed where people can share and explore how others are using it. It’s connected to meta.ai, so you can start a conversation on your phone and pick it up on the web, or vice versa, and it serves as the companion app for Meta’s AI glasses, such as Ray-Ban Meta.

What Meta AI can do

Powered by Muse Spark 1.1, Meta’s most capable model, Meta AI can:

• Make plans and connect to your tools. Meta says it can connect to email and calendar apps and make plans on your behalf.
• Create documents. It can build slides and other documents, and Meta says everything it creates for you, from training schedules to slide decks to mood boards, now lives in one place you can revisit, build on and share.
• Generate and edit images. Muse Image, described by Meta as Meta Superintelligence Labs’ first image generation model, lets you describe what you want in conversational language rather than a technical prompt. • Generate video, also powered by Muse models.

Instant and Thinking modes

Meta has rolled out Instant and Thinking modes across the places Meta AI appears. Instant mode gives a fast answer for everyday questions, and Thinking mode spends longer reasoning through harder ones, the same pattern OpenAI and Google use with thinking toggles in ChatGPT and Gemini.

Privacy: Incognito Chat

Meta introduced Incognito Chat, available on WhatsApp and in the Meta AI app, as what it calls “a completely private way to interact with AI”, separate from your regular Meta AI history. It’s worth checking Meta’s own privacy pages before you rely on it for sensitive conversations, since privacy features and their exact scope can change.

Meta AI vs other assistants

Meta AI’s distinguishing feature is its reach: it’s built into Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger as well as the standalone app, and it’s the software behind Meta’s AI glasses.
